Activity Eleven

This week you should focus on one of the following study questions and be sure to post your thoughts on a good answer for it:

1) What are the central issues and concerns when considering counselling or psychotherapy in a cultural context? Outline the barriers, themes and strategies for carrying out appropriate counselling in a multicultural setting.

Key Concepts:  Morita Therapy, Naikan Therapy, The alloplastic vs. autoplastic dilemma, Self Validation

2) What is the nature of prejudice and how might one overcome it as a social problem? Discuss one or two of the main theories of prejudice and at least one approach to overcoming it.

Key Concepts:  Hostility displacement, realistic conflict theory, identity theory of prejudice, contact hypothesis.
