Study Questions for Report 1

You will be asked to write one short essay (about three pages typed double spaced)
on a  question from this list.
  1. Provide an overview of what Health Psychology is along with a brief account of its history. In doing so indicate what the scope and general view(s) of the discipline while you describe the most important historical features of its formation in contemporary times.
     
  2. Describe the scope and nature of International Health psychology and give examples of what it does.
     
  3. Outline two methods used in health psychology research. Provide a brief overview of the essential features of each as well as a critical review of their strengths and weaknesses.

  4. Describe the general features of Traditional Chinese Medicine. While giving an overview of its perspective also compare it to the dominant approach of western medicine.
     
  5. Describe the Generalised Adapatation Syndrome and provide an example that illustrates its stages, including the core physiological responses to stress that expected at each stage.

  6. Outline the various ways in which coping may occur and give examples to support the styles you describe.
     
  7. Describe the relationship between psychological states and health as they pertain to the study of psychoneuroimmunology. Give examples from the text, notes or bulletin-board postings  that illustrate this relationship.
     
  8. Discuss the issues around perception of symptoms and seeking medical or health care, including possible delays that may occur in seeking healthcare or medical interventions.
