Activity 3
Moral Development

This week you are being asked to collect a small sample of data on a developmental issue (you can be one of the participants).

The issue at hand is Kohlberg's Moral development stages.   To begin, be sure to read the section in the text  on moral reasoning and find two or three people of different age groups. Let's block people in the ages of younger (5-20) middle (21-40) and older (40+). Review the link on ethics to remind yourself of good research practices, including not using people's real names.

First, be sure to tell your participants that they are answering voluntarily and can stop at any time
.

Then have each person read (or if you have to read it to them) the story of Heinz (as per this link) and have them complete the questions following the story.

Once you have had two (or three) people complete the questions look over the answers and do the following:

Write up a brief report indicating what were the most important reasons why Heinz should act and make a few comments on whether or not you see a developmental trend among your participants. Use APA style for this report where you will have an introduction, as section on Method, then one for results and discussion. (You can use this template to help develop your report, however, at this time you do not have to find an article).

Here consider the types of reasons for each stage, as per the text and this link, and report which stage (and age) for each of your participants, as you can review on this answer key for Heinz.

Drop your report in the drop box for activity 3. *

*(for Psyc 130 distance students - also be sure to make a post in the discussion section for this activity - and reply to someone elses' post)*
