My
psyc 130 Class was given
two
images to view and were asked to decide which one they preferred. They then
were asked to distribute money to two students, one who liked the same picture as
them, the other who liked the other picture.
As seen in the following handout they were
given various choices, non including an even split of 50 / 50.
Overwhelmingly they elected to give more money to their in-group member rather
than the out-group member as seen below t = 4.361 alpha = 0.000
This
gives strong support for Henry Tajfel’s social identity theory based upon this
minimal group experiment.
