Part
I. Chi2 test for two nominal grouping variables
Open the first data
file using SPSS.
If you are not sure of the variable
labels please ask.
Click on Analysis
then
Descriptive Statistics then Crosstabs
Add the nominal
variables
that you wish to compare into the to Rows
and Columns boxes
Check to see the statistics
button to make sure the chi2 is checked
Click continue
Check the cells
button to make sure that Observed, Expected, Rows
& Columns are all checked.
Click on OK
and let the analysis run
Look at the output and examine
the percentages within the cells
and for the totals along the edges of the cells.
Where there is a cell with
a big difference between the expected and observed frequencies it may be
statistically significant. Was the Chi2 significant?
What conclusions can you make
of this data?
Part
II ANOVA for continuous dependent variables
Now go back to the data file
and
Click on Analysis
then
Compare
Means then One-way ANOVA
Add one nominal
variable for the factor
Add some interval
or ratio variables to the Dependent list
Check the Options button
to be sure that Descriptive is
checked
Click OK
and let the analysis run
Look at the output and examine
the Ns, Means, and Standard Deviations
for the dependent variables.
Look at the significance of
the comparisons between variables entered.
Did any of the analyses show
significance? What can you conclude from this data?
Open
second data file and repeat this exercise
Note: you can also use the
data file that you constructed several weeks ago for this practice
